I have just one week left of my year-long placement working for IBM in Hursley, near Winchester. Though I may not be completely sold on the idea of an office job when I leave University, today I reflected on how IBM Hursley isn’t the worst place in the world if I you? have to do it. Flexitime, a relaxed working atmosphere, casual dress code, the ability to work from home, big picturesque grounds in a coutryside setting, an onsite pub (two more in walking? distance)? and? lots of sports clubs &? facilities? makes 9-5 office life a lot more bareable. Here are a few memories from the past year…
IBM put on a huge free? fireworks display for bonfire night, which people? came from all over to watch.
We had a spitfire flyover (it was for a reason, probably a good one, but I’ve forgotten it):
My team regularly went for mountain bike rides at lunchtime in the surrounding area.
I played Ultimate Frisbee as part of HUC.it:
Yesterday my managers were dishing up icecream in the ‘sunken garden’? to the team as a thank you for all our hard work recently:
Today there was a motorshow of cars owned by employees – all of which had something special about them. From classics and suped-up racers? to kit cars and campers, I definitely got the feeling that there are people here earning much more than my Industrial Trainee salary!
This one got my vote:?
There have been many more cool moments and? I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has made my placement an enjoyable,? educational and fun experience.

The spitfire flyover was because the design team for the plane used the house.
