Is it winter again?

Good old British weather huh? Last month it was so hot that Carl Leahy and Ali Marshall were paddling Hurley in ‘skins’:

Topless paddling!

Its now almost June and it’s 6 degrees, blowing a gale and most importantly RAINING! However, we did start this bank holiday weekend? with climbing and a BBQ! It’s good to be British…

The Square Rock Team BBQ was awesome… two full size trampolines to play on (which caused amazingly little drunken carnage), plenty of camping space, drinks, merriment? and more? tasty food than I could ever? have imagined.? It seems I timed switching teams pretty well! I enjoyed? meeting my new sponsors properly – especially since they kept feeding me amazing desserts.? Catching up with? the team? after the recent World Championships and getting the gossip was fun as always.

Trampolining

Sunday was a slow start, as expected, followed by more good eating as Andy and I were taken out for dinner to celebrate his birthday which was earlier this week. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY!!

While mooching about letting our dinner digest, I recieved an email “Hurley Weir on 2 – not expected to last more than a couple of days so make the most of it!”. Andy was extremely excited since he’d just picked up a shiny new Allstar from WWTCC and had thought that Chertsey would be as good as it got this weekend. We arrived to find an empty car park…

? The wave wasn’t much busier…

Empty Hurley

Happy days.

All night it rained and it? blew and it rained some more. We figured that if we were lucky Hurley might go up to the magical three gates, never did we suspect that on the 28th of May we’d be paddling the ‘big water’ weirs such as Sunbury… But here we are!

It was hard work to get onto as you had to ferry across to a small eddy on river right then battle over some strange flows and boils, but worth it for a fun, fast surf. Andy was particularly? smiley? after he landed his first pistol flip!

Great weekend all-round. Four days of work, then off to the Alps (via Lyon). :-)
