Longdroppin’

Hi Guys,

This will only be a short message from Uganda as I have been have technology issues (my laptop has died).

We arrived on Saturday and came straight to the Hairy Lemon island, which is at the end of the Day 2 section of the White Nile in Uganda.

Andy

That evening we had a play on the Nile Special wave, which was awesome. The water was high enough to allow us to paddle on and big air was easily caught. It was a very “social” session with all the Jackson crew, Billy Harris, Nice Chassing, a load of Kiwi boys and many more, but it was nice to see what everyone was pulling off. I was particularly impressed by Ruth Gordon’s clean blunts.

Nile Special Wave

Sunday we did from Super Hole down to the Hairy Lemon with some British guys who are here on a Liquid Satisfaction course with Sam Ward. There are plenty of flat bits on the Nile… no-one seems to talk about them! The big water rapids were a lot of fun though. Itunda is very impressive. There’s a clear line, from the bank, but I chose the bankside line.

Monday morning we did a session at Club wave (the third wave in the Nile Special wave train) and then things started to take a turn for the worse…. myself, Andy and one of the Kiwi boys, Sam Sutton, got some nasty bug – perhaps food poisoning. I tell you – the longdrops saw a lot of action Monday night! We haven’t paddled since, but are hopefully on our way to recovery. This afternoon we are heading to NRE at the top of the river so hope to paddle the Day 1 section tomorrow.

Monkey

I would just like to add a note about the sights and sounds of Uganda. I’ve seen monkeys, snakes and huge birds… but the people are just as interesting. The drive from the airport takes you throught crazy crowded cities on tarmac’d roads and though tiny villages with dit tracks and mud huts. The kids here are really friendly and always seem happy – which is great to see.

More kids at Superhole put-in

(I will attempt to add pics in a minute)

    Hi Low,

Glad you seem to be having fun, the photos look really good. I went paddling at Llan this eve. was on 1 1/2 on the guage. Doesn’t really compare to Uganda but the sun was shining just enough to wear a shorty.

Hope you get well quickly and can get back to paddling.

    Speak soon

Great stuff I was there before any of the kayaking stuff started and now want to go back more than ever. There were no rafting or kayaking companies in Uganda when I was there in 1992, I understand they started around 1994 sorry I was early Thanks for the pictures Uganda has always been one of my favourite countries Greg
