After finding very little water in Dartmoor last Saturday, the next day? Tim Ripper and I headed to the Thames – where there was plenty of water!
After checking out Hurley (which was on a high 4) and Shepperton (which is apparently not working at the moment due to work? to a weir downstream) we ended up at Sunbury. It was brilliant – a big fast wave with whirlies and boils everywhere around to make life a little more interesting. Once you’d battled your way on, you were rewarded with river wave surfing of a size and quality? that is rarely seen in the UK.
More photos of our day can be seen on Tim’s photo site.
Jon Best (and many more)? were there on the same day, although we paddled between their two sessions. Jon’s pics can be found here? – some impressive stuff.
