This weekend was the the selection weekend for the British University Kayaking Expedition Team. It was al excellent? three days? of boating in North Wales with decent water levels and fantastic company. We had a boater-cross down the Aber Glaslyn Gorge, scraped down the Llugwy, had a great run down the classic Upper Mawddach, some people blasted down the Gamlan and Sunday was finished off with some super-fast sliding down Cwm Llan (after trekking up the side of Snowdon with boats and cameras!).

Over the weekend we discussed several destination options, decided an ideal team size of 9? and then on Saturday evening did a secret ballot to select the top 6 people we think should go. The 9 people with the most votes were then selected for the team – and I am one of them!!

The team:

Dave Burne
Paul Sherman
Graham Milton
Patrick Clissold
Simon Tapley
Sean Ziehm-Stephen
Tom Hunter
Ben Bedingham
… and me!

We have decided we will be going to Russia and are chosing between two potential mountain ranges this weekend once we have all had a chance to do a little more personal research.

Once the important stuff had been decided, we all piled into cars and headed to Bangor for a crazy night out which ended up in a random’s house party. By 6am, all 28 of us were sleeping on any available space in Tom Laws’s house.

An absolutely top weekend… photos coming soon!
